Safe Church

People with an inclination toward sexual abuse are inhibited when a church is diligent in providing training and education about the nature and consequences of sexual abuse as a violation of God's will and purpose for the church. In an effort to keep the children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem safe from child abuse, we have established a safe church policy, adopted by the Session of our church in 2007. In accordance with the policy, we conduct screenings, criminal record checks, and child abuse clearances on all church employees (full-time and part-time) as well as all volunteers that work with children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities. We also provide training regarding the safe church policy and protocols as well as signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse and when and how to report. Scripture says, God is concerned with protecting and nurturing children, who are the most vulnerable members of society. (Exodus 22:21-23)
